Broken Angel
January 28, 2008
I climbed a hill, and I
tried to fly
I took a fall, and I
wondered why
Never thought the sky
could look so far away
Opened my eyes, saw a
thousand things
Thousand pieces, of my
shattered wings, and I
Never thought the sky
Could look, so far away
Chorus
Broken angel sings the song
of a Love that’s waiting.
Breaks a smile, then she’s gone
to her Love that’s waiting.
I climbed a hill, and I
saw You there
You said You had some
wings to spare, and
Now the sky don’t look so far away…

Mr. Kitty’s Revenge
December 10, 2007
Before you read, I must apologize for this poem. I have been trying to write more often, and I fully intend to participate on this forum more. Thus, last night, I found myself attempting to write something, anything. I was hoping to pen some deep, profound lyrics that would be remembered for posterity.
I gave up.
And so you have this bit of a poem, a product of boredom, that started with randomly scrawled lines, and a thought about Rudyard Kipling’s “The Cat That Walked by Himself”. It ended with Mr. Kitty, a feline bound to a young mistress who, by simply loving him to death, has made him quite despondent and disappointed with his lot in life.
And so, having harmed no children in the writing of this poem, I give you:
Mr. Kitty’s Revenge
Cute kitty, little kitty
Won’t you play with me?
Cute kitty, little kitty
Let us play at tea
Cute kitty, little kitty
Would you like some more?
Cute kitty, little kitty
Let’s go to the store.
Cute girl, little girl
Why must you treat me so?
Cute girl, little girl
I’m just a cat you know.
Cute girl, little girl
What did I ever do?
Cute girl, little girl
to deserve such pain from you?
Cute kitty, little kitty
It’s not pain but fun.
Cute kitty, little kitty
Let’s go, we’re not done.
Cute kitty, little kitty
I’ll buy you an apron and some socks.
Cute kitty, little kitty
They’ll match well with your frocks.
Cute girl, little girl
You do know I’m a he?
Cute girl, little girl
I do have balls you see?
Cute girl, little girl
Please leave me alone.
Cute girl, little girl
Else I’ll scratch and moan.
Cute kitty, little kitty
You would scratch me, why?
Cute kitty, little kitty
That would make me cry!
Cute kitty, little kitty
We can have such fun!
Cute kitty, little ki…
SCRATCH, RAAAWWWRRR!
Failure (an extrememly short essay)
December 10, 2007
Failure: an Essay
Failure could be compared to being screwed by the IRS. It’s inevitable. In each of our lives we will, at one time or another, fail. It’s not because we want to, it’s because we are fallible. The simple fact that we are capable of making mistakes means that we will.
This is not to say that our lives are failures in themselves. That is what I have termed “absolute failure”, and it is avoidable. I will address this further later in this essay.
For the moment, I wish to explore the meaning of simple failures, and how they can be avoided. For purposes of clarity, I will define a “simple failure” as a single instance where one makes an honest mistake, or purposely contravenes one’s own moral or spiritual values.
One might argue that these are actually two very distinct actions, and they would be right. However, this does not change the fact that in each case, it is considered failure. To repeat a single mistake over time will likely have the same effect as the repetition of an intentional contravention of one’s values (also known as a “sin”). They are, in essence, one and the same, the only difference being that the honest mistake is much more easily forgiven.
The nature of a single simple failure is such that, on it’s own, it will rarely bring about one’s downfall. Thus simple failures can be quite subtle; though, if recognized early enough, they can also be easily overcome.
Recognition of a simple failure, however, usually happens in hindsight. Conversely, foresight is the solution. If we can only ask ourselves, “How will this decision affect me, my life, and my relations with others?”, before taking action, we could effectively avoid each of these simple failures.
Unfortunately, forgetting to ask that question is in itself a simple failure, and thus, unavoidable at times. But if employed most of the time, this solution can help us to avoid absolute failure.
What is absolute failure? I would define it as a combination of repeated simple failures combined with apathy. Apathy,is the key ingredient to absolute failure. It could be said that if apathy were replaced with effort, someone who continued to fail time and time again would only be an Edison in the making.
Absolute failure is the saddest state a human being can know. Sadder still, is that the victim doesn’t, and likely never will, care. He is simply content to live well below the standards of success, and even mediocrity.
After the saving grace that our Lover gives us, perseverance and effort, even in spite of our many simple failures, are the key to avoiding absolute failure.
Even if we have repeated the same failure for years, we have only to exercise perseverance by crying out to out Savior for his mercy, forgiveness, strength, and guidance, and then take appropriate action to rectify the situation.
If we will do what we can, our simple failures can become learning experiences, and absolute failure, a non-issue.
Organ Bells (at the Carnival)
October 3, 2007
Joker laughs and fakes his smile
he’ll get his paycheck in a little while
Dancer steps on the stage alone
but when the music stops, the crowd goes home
Morning dawns, sunlight takes its toll
Where’s my heart? There’s just a big hole…
It must be outside the carnival
Chorus 1
Leave behind a private hell
Say goodbye to the organ bells
They ring, they sing, come back to play
Laugh and dance over again
(At the carnival)
(At the carnival)
Sun goes down and the lights go on
Die again when the party’s done
Masks and costumes will decay
A shame, a shame, the crowd will say
Morning dawns, it’s over now
The moon keeps laughing at the cow
Curtain drops, I’ll take a final bow
Chorus 2
Leave behind a private hell
Say good bye to the organ bells
Cross into the other lane
Burn the carnival, live again
Wait for you
September 26, 2007
I took a long walk, to the
city and back
I took a long ride, on the
circular track
I didn’t think I’d get tired, of the
chase around Rome
But then I picked up the phone
Chorus
I felt like I was home
just for a while
Come back anytime
You said with a smile
I’ll be here a long, long time
I’ll wait for you a long, long time
I’m packing the bags, for the
long road ahead
Can’t get my mind, off the
things that you said
It’s all in there, each word
and each tone
Everything you said on the phone
Repeat chorus x2
And it’s a Miracle
September 26, 2007
Your tears fall on the sand
of my soul, and I
begin to breathe again.
Droplets fall from the clouds
in my head, and I
forget about the crowd.
When the ocean is empty
and the river is dry
When I feel like I’m lonely
and I don’t know why
Redemption falls from the sky
and it’s a miracle
My days pass me on by
in a blur, and I’m
in love with your smile
Kiss me all of the time
and I’ll, be yours
I’ll make it worth your while
Lie here with me in the rain
and the cold, so we
can fall in love again…
Repeat Chorus
